Natural and surrogate keys

    I've used alternate or unique keys in addition to SK/PK as you ask about. Sometimes these additional keys are logical only / do not generate; but many times they are enabled to support avoiding duplicate values that would be an error.

    In my practice, I don't think of these as keys , but prefer to consider them as identifiers, and more precisely as providing uniqueness rules.
