In erwin under MODEL PROPERTIES there is an checkbox 'User Data Type in Unification'. According to the help it says "Specifies whether or not you want the default logical and physical datatypes to be used in unification of two or more tables or entities."
What does this mean how do you use it? Any examples?
That box is meaningful only in the following situations:
1. There is unification, meaning that the same named Column is being brought into a Child Table as FK from two or more different Parent Tables.
2. The Logical Datatypes of Attributes have PK Columns with the same name, but different Datatypes in Logical side, but same Datatypes in the Physical side, e.g.:
Notice that the Datatypes of both PK Columns match in the Physical side, but are different in the Logical side. If the checkbox "User Data Type in Unification" is checked, you will not be able to add the second Relationship (from Parent2 to Child) as it will give you a Key Migration conflict error. In that case you will need to make sure that the Datatypes even in the Logical side are matching. If that box is NOT selected, you will be able to add the second Relationship even if the Datatypes in Logical side are not matching.
