Automodeler Access Violation Crash on Start Up
Symptoms
When a user runs Automodeler it crashes as soon as the app starts with an access violation error shown in the screen shot below:
If AM does not crash as soon as its run i.e. the AM window is shown it is not this problem and needs to be diagnosed differently.
Diagnosis
- Run AutoModeler on the machine with the problem
- Open a copy of windows explorer
- Browse to the %temp% folder
- Open the latest AM Audit file (Should have the date time stamp of when you just run AM)
In this file you will see the following error:
----------
Automodeler (63.NET)
Run Time Error 5 in Automodeler
An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

Solution
Run Add remove programs and check to see if VBOCX’s is installed.
If this is missing then run the VBOCX .msi file
If it is present in add remove programs, uninstall VBOCX and install the one supplied with the version of CM they are using.
To get the latest VBOCX.msi file run the CM setup so the casewise setup screen appears.
Run windows explorer and go to %temp% you will see a folder with a name like “WZSE0.TMP”
Open this folder and you will see all the CM install files in this folder you will find VBOCXs.msi
Copy this file to the desktop and close the CM setup
Once CM setup is closed you can just run the VBOCX.msi and install once the machine has rebooted AM should now run.
