Reverse engineering from Hive database processing is slow due to the absence of system
tables. The required information is retrieved by manual parsing methods instead of a query language.
- The 64-bit OS version of erwin DM has access to greater memory and that could help with the performance. So make sure you are using that (the Help | About will tell).
- The processing power of a machine could also help with the performance.
- Finally, we have an import bridge for Hive also. That may also be an option for you: File | Import from external format. Then you can select the Hive bridge (an example is in figure 1, below).
Our suggestion is you run the reverse engineer over a weekend. Please also see additional suggestions below (scroll down).
Some other things that can help the reverse engineer speed may be to filter on databases rather than reverse engineering ALL the databases (figure 2).
Also, one customer reported that when they checked off partition and partition element, the process went through much faster for them (figure 3).
