CA ERwin Licensing Issue Reference and FAQ (for r8 and later) - CA Technologies ERwin Knowledge Base
How to Handle Licensing Issues
I.OverviewLicensing problems will fall into either of two basic categories. First, ERwin doesn’t open even as the Community Edition (CE), and second, ERwin Opens as CE, but the “working license” (SE, WE or Navigator) is not recognized. Each of these items is covered below.
Basic information needed for virtually every licensing issue:
II.ERwin does not open (even as CE)NOTE: Always get ERwin to open as CE before pursuing anything else! Potential problem:

III.ERwin opens as CE but not as the fully-licensed version (SE, WE or Nav)In this case, we know ERwin is installed and running properly, so the problem is associated strictly with the full-feature license file (SE, WE or Navigator). The problem has to be either the location of the license file, or an invalid license file.
Here are the most-common causes of invalid license files:
IV.FAQ
When looking for a MAC Address, the only address displayed is “0000ffffffff”. Diagnosis: The adapters are probably configured as “virtual” devices. Answer: Contact CA Licensing to get a non-MAC address license (see Appendix)
You received a machine name license, but ERwin still opens as ERwin CE Diagnosis: There are two versions of machine name. One is the “Full computer name” and includes the domain and the other is the Computer name by itself. We’ve found that the required name is the full name for some machines and the short name for others, and that only one version will work. For example the full name might be: “MyMachineName.MyCorp.com” then the short name would be: “MyMachineName” We’ve found that the short name has worked more-often than the long name, but if the short name doesn’t work, try getting a license with the full machine name. Answer: If the first license fails, request a license based on the name version not used for the first license.
You can run ERwin as CE but can’t find the folder to install your working license. Answer: Use the utility accessible through HelpàLicensing
You have a valid ERwin WE installation, but get an error when attempting to connect to the mart. Your license does not permit connection to this Mart. Please contact your Mart administrator. Some users may be able to connect, while others cannot. Diagnosis: The Company Name in your ERwin WE license does not match that used to create the mart. Initializer licenses are specific to one company so the company name for all ERwin WE clients must exactly match the company name for the Initializer license used to create the mart. You can confirm this by opening the ERwin WE and Initializer licenses using Word Pad (Notepad does not work as well) then look for the company name in the Initializer and WE licenses. The company follows “user_info=” in the license file. The company names must match exactly (including case, spaces and punctuation). Solution: Determine the precise company name then request a new ERwin WE license making sure that the company name and Site Id are exactly the same as that associated with the Initializer license. It is best to provide a valid Initializer or Workgroup Edition license when requesting the replacement license.
