My ERwin users are getting “License Could Not Be Obtained” when requesting a concurrent license. When I check the License Server Administrator I see that there are hung up licenses. If a user with a hung up license then takes another license, then I see that user has two licenses in use for a single instance of ERwin. As this doubling up occurs, soon our license pool becomes maxxed out and no other ERwin users can get a license. How do I remove or relinquish those hung up licenses so my other ERwin users can also run ERwin?
You can modify the License Administrator Options File on the License Administrator host machine to reduce the timeout from the installation default that is four hours to 15 minutes.
NOTE: the timeout feature does not apply to user inactivity in ERwin DM. The timeout feature applies to when ERwin DM has stopped sending a "heartbeat" to the license server to let it know it is still an active license. The heart beat is usually interrupted when there has been some sort of network disruption or disconnect that is longer than the timeout period, or ERwin crashing, etc. If the user steps away from their desk, that will not interrupt the heartbeat. ERwin must be shut down in order to give up the license back to the License Administrator.
On the License Administrator host machine, please locate the file erwinmod.opt in
C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\CA ERwin DM License Administrator\licenses\erwinmod, or similar.
First, make a copy of erwinmod.opt to back that up.
Then open erwinmod.opt using notepad.
Above the line "#DO NOT USE BORROW_LOWWATER FOR AN UNCOUNTED License." please add the following line:
TIMEOUT Workgroup 900
The above numbers are in seconds. Hence, we are reducing the timeout for ERwin Workgroup Edition from 4 hours to 15 minutes.
Now ask all the ERwin DM users to close down any running copies and save their changes.
Then stop and start the License Server for the change to take effect.
NOTE 1: If you wish to reduce the time out for the standard edition, then the line would be,
TIMEOUT Standard 900
The minimum timeout time that can be set is 15 minutes. If the time is set to be shorter, this will not work.
NOTE 2: a more immediate way to relinquish all licenses is to stop the license server and then start it back up again, but of course that would be disruptive to your ERwin users and that is not a recommended solution.
