How to manage special characters when switching from Logical to Physical side?

Question:

How to manage Special Characters across a model when switching from Logical to Physical side?

Symptoms:

When a model that has special character, like '&' sign in the Logical side. However, when switched from Logical to Physical side, the special characters changes to underscores (_) for Tables and Columns. Requirement is to have the '&' sign across both the physical and logical sides.

Resolution:

In erwin DM, to retain a special character, click on Actions | Model Naming Options and under Physical Tab check the checkbox for 'Allow Special DBMS characters'.  Also make sure Name Mapping Tab has Special Characters set to ‘Leave’ (default). That will keep the special characters in the Physical side as well when switching from Logical to Physical side.
