A processing error occurred while while Reverse Engineering from script file created from from SQL Server Management Studio (exported as DDL)
When trying to Reverse Engineering an SQL / Script file created by exporting as DDL from SQL Server using SSMS we get the processing syntax error as shown in the screen shot above.
This was because of the file format. In general the databases create a script file in Unicode format. Up until recently it was not supported, but it should work in most cases. If needed the file can be converted to ANSI format as follows to make it work:
- Open the File in Notepad
- Click on File | Save as and change the 'Encoding' to 'ANSI' not 'Unicode'.
