Erwin Data Modeler includes a number of Forward Engineering Templates (.fet files). These templates are used for syntax generation when using the Forward Engineering feature. For more information on fet files, please see:
In some cases, it is necessary to deploy updated fet files either to correct known issues in Data Modeler or to customize existing functionality.
Steps:
To deploy an updated fet file…..
1. Closing any running instances of Data Modeler
2. Navigate to the Templates directory. This location is different in each release.
Release | Location |
9.8* | C:\ProgramData\erwin\Data Modeler\9.8\Templates |
2018r1* ** | C:\ProgramData\erwin\Data Modeler\9.8\Templates |
2019r1* ** | C:\ProgramData\erwin\Data Modeler\9.8\Templates |
2020r1* ** *** | C:\ProgramData\erwin\Data Modeler\9.9\Templates |
* For PostgreSQL, the fet file is stored in a unique location \erwin\Data Modeler r9\AbstractDbLayer\PostgreSQL9.6 . This location is the same for all supported releases.
** For Netezza, the fet file is stored in a unique location \erwin\Data Modeler r9\AbstractDbLayer\Netezza7.2 . Netezza is supported in Data Modeler releases 2018r1 and higher.
***For Redshift, the fet file is stored in a unique location \erwin\Data Modeler r9\AbstractDbLayer\Redshift1.0 . Redshift is supported in Data Modeler releases 2020r1 and higher.
3. If deploying an updated version of an existing template, we recommend renaming the template file name, so a backup exists. For example: Oracle11g.fet to Oracle11g.fet_original
4. Copy the newly updated .fet file to the Template directory
5. Start erwin Data Modeler
Some additional considerations...
-Backups for erwin provided fet files can be found in \erwin\Data Modeler r9\BackupFiles\Templates:
-If you do not wish to update the existing template permanently, you can open a template for use during the Forward Engineering option selection as described here:
